Pippa Meyer checks her bank balance a last time, takes a deep breath and enters the room. She has to do it; she has no other choice. "Welcome, Mrs. Meyer, sit down," a man named Erik West greets her. Pippa knows him. He is capable of every seasonal event in the mall and also takes care of employing all the Santas they still need. She knows him, because she worked in the mall five years ago as a cashier, and she wanted to do it for the rest of her life, but they rationalized her. Now, a robot is doing her job. Desperate, she sits down, seeing him watching to his monitor for the next minute. This confuses her. Since there are brain interfaces for computer systems, nobody needs a monitor anymore.
